According to XDA Developers, Google may be back in the lab developing an all-new Nest Hello video doorbell.
When the hood of the latest version of the Google Home app for Android is popped open, an image appears showing the back plate of the next generation Hello doorbell, leading to speculation that a new video doorbell is in development.
There is still not much information available other than a single image, and as past experience has shown, images can disappear without a trace.
Nevertheless, the existing Nest Hello video doorbell was launched in 2018. While still a top pick among the best video doorbells, some features now look rather dated, such as the micro USB port used to charge the device if it goes without power for too long.
Google's security-focused Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has reportedly been unavailable since January, spurring several other models in stock to rise in our best outdoor security cameras. Google has not refreshed its product line in several years and a comprehensive update is needed.
For this reason, we may see a series of camera announcements from Google this year: perhaps a new outdoor camera design and a new Nest Hello Video Doorbell, but don't get your hopes up too quickly as Google has so far not confirmed anything.
In any case, the next-generation Nest Hello Video Doorbell will likely reference its predecessors, including night vision, HD video, package detection, and 24-hour surveillance.
It will probably aim to keep pace with newer rivals like the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus and Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. At the very least, it will open a new chapter in the Ring vs. Nest debate over which video doorbell should grace the front door. Stay tuned for more details.
