Dyson has unveiled the new Dyson V15 Detect. Equipped with a green laser, this cordless vacuum cleaner looks like something out of a celestial vacuum cleaner from Star Wars.
It may seem odd that a laser would be added to a vacuum cleaner, but this one is used to scrape up those pesky crumbs from the carpet.
Aside from the laser, the Dyson V15 is packed with other nifty features, including an LCD screen that displays the size of the debris the V15 is vacuuming up and a sensor that automatically boosts suction when it encounters more troublesome debris.
Those with pets that shed a lot of hair will benefit greatly. Dyson's new machine features an "anti-tangle conical brush bar" that prevents hair from getting tangled in the V15's bristles, a particularly irritating byproduct of sucking up pet hair.
Of course, being a Dyson, the V15 comes with a hefty price tag. The anti-tangle brush bar, molecular dust tracking, and laser cost $699, about the same as the Cyclone V10 Absolute.
More on the laser: it is green because the color contrast level is supposed to provide the best light setting when using the V15 in areas affected by ambient brightness, dust types, and cleaning surfaces.
Dyson will unveil two other vacuum cleaners on Wednesday: the Dyson Outsize, at $799, with a larger capacity and a $100 price increase. There is also the Dyson Omniglide, which has a multi-turn head to trim the fat and looks to be a very high-performance vacuum cleaner at an affordable price of $399
