The Nintendo Switch Pro is going to be a great device, and this console/portable hybrid will reportedly use Nvidia's AI technology to deliver 4K.
Bloomberg reports that the Nintendo Switch Pro will support Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which uses artificial intelligence to use 1080p and 1440p images to 4K This technology supports Nvidia's special This technology requires a special chip from Nvidia.
If Bloomberg's report is accurate, the power of the Nintendo Switch family could approach that of the current generation PS5 and Xbox Series X. Details regarding other quality-of-life enhancements, such as extended battery life and additional Bluetooth support, have not been disclosed. It is also unclear if the more powerful Switch Pro will require a new power supply, assuming it requires more power.
Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting systems that support 4K displays, but the graphic fidelity will not reach the level of the PS5 or Xbox Series X. Therefore, a powerful CPU that would require a large cooling system would not be practical for portability. Still, given the quality of mobile games at the moment, the ability to upscale those images to 4K using AI would be a welcome development for many Nintendo fans.
Given that the Switch Pro will use a more powerful chip, more memory, and OLED display technology via Samsung, Bloomberg Intelligence analysts believe the device will be priced at $400. Bloomberg also also reported that Nintendo will offer a "wealth of new games" for the launch of the Switch Pro.
If that pricing is true, the Switch Pro could undercut the $499 PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, the digital-only version of the PS5 costs $399 and the Xbox Series S only $299.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, chip shortages continue to plague electronics manufacturing. The Nintendo Switch Pro will likely use the more plentiful 12nm chips, but there may still be a shortage this winter; just as PS5 restocks and Xbox Series X restocks continue to be searched for on Google months after their release, the same A similar situation is likely to occur with the Switch Pro.
