Square Enix became the latest game publisher to announce new titles via live stream, with traditional gaming conventions unlikely to resume anytime soon. During a 45-minute live event today (March 18), Square Enix touched on a variety of upcoming games: Outriders, Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy, Forspoken (Project Athia," and more. But the biggest announcements were Marvel's "Avengers: War for Wakanda" and "Life Is Strange: True Colors."
First, if you missed Square Enix's live stream, you can watch it in its entirety on the company's official YouTube channel. Like most publisher livestreams these days, this one is an amiable mix of anticipated titles, mobile games that no one really asked about, and well-timed re-releases.
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of Square Enix's livestream was the announcement of Marvel's Avengers: War for Wakanda expansion. As the title suggests, this voluminous DLC will add an all-new story chapter focusing on popular Avenger Black Panther and his high-tech nation. Details are still scarce, but it is almost certain that Black Panther will be a playable character. The expansion is expected to appear later this year, but pricing is not yet known.
Another big announcement is Life is Strange: True Colors. The next installment in the popular "Life is Strange" series will be very different. Instead of being released episode by episode, "True Colors" will be released in its entirety. This time around, the game will feature a new protagonist named Alex, who will use his empathic abilities to investigate a devastating murder in a small town. The game will be released on September 10 for PlayStation, Xbox consoles and PC.
Fans of "Life Is Strange" will also be happy to hear that the "Life Is Strange Remastered Collection" will be released later this year on consoles, PC and Stadia. The game is exactly what it sounds like: it will include both "Life Is Strange" and "Life Is Strange: Before the Storm," with significantly updated graphics and a new system to play on.
Elsewhere, Square Enix spent time showing off gameplay from its upcoming multiplayer shooter/RPG "Outriders," which will be released on PC and consoles on April 1. (It will be available on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass from day one, which is a pretty exciting development if you're a subscriber.) A new trailer for "Forspoken" was also shown. It's an action/RPG that thrusts ordinary women into a dangerous high fantasy world.
