The OnePlus 9 comes with a two-year manufacturer's warranty, so if something goes wrong with the phone during that time, they should be able to fix the problem.
The news comes from Liu Zuohu, CEO of OnePlus Technology and founder of OnePlus Mobile (via GizChina). This is a perk that few phones offer, especially not OnePlus' biggest competitors like Samsung.
According to Zuohu, this decision was made because people tend to replace their phones after two years. This means that OnePlus customers enjoy a full warranty for the life of the phone, rather than one year, which is the industry standard.
Of course, the OnePlus 9's lifespan will be much longer than that. Like all Android devices, this model should be provided with two years of Android updates and three years of Android security updates. Therefore, there is no need to throw the phone away after two years just because the warranty has expired.
As with Samsung offering three years of Android updates, this warranty news is still a big deal. While it is possible to get an extended warranty on a phone, it is not that common and may cost more to get a warranty. So the fact that OnePlus is offering a free one-year extension is very welcome news.
OnePlus may not be the largest cell phone company, but hopefully other phone manufacturers are taking notice. After all, the more they compete with each other over things like Android updates and warranties, the better for consumers.
