The movie "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" is coming soon (available Friday on Disney Plus). In response, Disney has released less than two minutes of tension-filled footage (viewable below).
The footage begins with a lot of emotion about Cap's shield itself, as Sam's backyard target practice shows that he still doesn't understand its gifts. The biggest change in this trailer, however, is the emphasis on how cool the Falcon looks in the air.
But then the trailer moves away from the heroes and shows the U.S. government going in a different direction at a press conference. Of course, we don't see John Walker's official debut as a U.S. agent, but all the clues and visual cues are there. He's a new symbol of inspiration, the politician says, underscoring the major topic of the first half of the trailer, when Bucky tells Sam about how much the cap shield means to the people.
The trailer then shows more of the brawl on top of the big truck that was announced, with Sam and Bucky facing off against a super-powerful flag smasher. In a series of fast-moving clips, we also see the reappearance of Baron Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) in a purple ski mask. Yes, the dastardly villain from "Captain America: Civil War" is back.
Terrorists are attacking cities. Walls are being broken down by hand and everything is going crazy. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks much more like a Marvel movie than the earlier Wander Vision episodes. We're not in Westview anymore, Sparky.
In the warehouse we've seen in multiple press photos, Sam tells an unnamed character played by Erin Kerryman, "There doesn't have to be a war." She replies, "There already is," before being escorted out of the building. Of course, Emily VanCamp also makes a brief appearance, reprising her role as Sharon Carter.
But even this trailer doubles down on the coolness of the Falcon as it soars through the air and pulls off all kinds of tricks.
Sam says as he closes out the trailer, "We look so cool, though," to the delight of fans.
