The trophies for the 2021 Golden Globe winners were mailed out.
Netflix swept the night with seven awards, including Best Drama for The Crown. In the film categories, Nomadland and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm took top honors in the drama and comedy/musical categories.
The 2021 Golden Globes ceremony opened with sharp sarcasm from hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler about the lack of diversity at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
A recent report in the L.A. Times revealed that not a single member of the HFPA (the group that votes on the awards) is black; the HFPA acknowledged its failure during the show, issuing a statement promising that three members would do so
and that the HFPA would be "a very good organization to work with. The rest of the show was a mixture of technical problems (the first recipient, Daniel Kaluuya, began his speech on mute) and teleconference awkwardness. There were some genuinely great moments, such as Taylor Simone Ledward, widow of the late Chadwick Boseman, giving a moving speech after receiving the award.
But aside from the novelty of glimpses of celebrities in their homes, their dogs, and their pajamas, the Golden Globes show itself is widely considered a dud. The best part was that the spotlight was on deserving winners like Chloe Zhao, director of "Nomadland," the first (and second woman) Asian American woman to "take home" an award in the category.
