Update: A tweet from OnePlus founder and SEO Pete Lau hints that the OnePlus 9 series will launch on March 8. Lau tweeted, "Stay tuned on March 8," accompanied by an image of the Earth as seen from the moon and the text, "Something new is on the horizon."
The pieces of OnePlus' plans for next month are starting to come together. We have heard for some time that the Chinese company plans to launch the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in March, but now we have word that these are only half of the hardware that will be on display.
Reliable leaker Ishan Igarwal told 91mobiles that OnePlus plans to unveil four more hardware at the same event next month: in addition to the 9 and 9 Pro devices, the budget OnePlus 9R and the long-awaited OnePlus Watch will be announced.
The OnePlus 9R was known as the OnePlus 9 Lite before evidence of the 9R name was found in html on the OnePlus website. 6.5-inch 90Hz display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 and 8GB RAM. It will reportedly feature a 64MP primary camera and a 5,000mAh battery.
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 chip. Both feature 120Hz displays, and while the regular 9 doesn't look like a big step up from the 8T, OnePlus seems to be going all out with the 9 Pro, which includes an exciting new partnership with luxury camera brand Hasselblad.
Finally, there is the OnePlus Watch, which OnePlus came close to releasing a smartwatch in 2015, but abandoned it at the last minute.
Lau seemed to confirm at the time that the OnePlus Watch would run Wear OS. He said, "What we're trying to do is work with Google to improve connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones to achieve better device interoperability across the ecosystem."
Past rumors have suggested a round watch face, but given that the brands operate under the same umbrella, the possibility of something similar to the Oppo Watch cannot be ruled out.OnePlus and Oppo claim to be separate brands, but the two companies' products have shared similarities in the past They share similarities; compare the Oppo Find X2 Pro and the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Whatever is announced, this rumored March event is likely to be OnePlus' biggest launch to date, showcasing four pieces of hardware. Expect a date for the announcement to be set in the near future.
