The OnePlus 9 will be coming soon, and we now know when its launch date will be announced.
Yes, OnePlus is keeping us guessing by not telling us when the launch event will actually take place, but only revealing that we will know more details on March 8. The event itself is expected to take place a week or so later.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau tweeted this teaser earlier today, saying only "Stay tuned on March 8" above a link to the OnePlus web page where you can register for updates.
The tweet also included an image of the Earth as seen from the moon with the text: "Something new is on the horizon."
Given that a Hasselblad camera was used to capture that image from the Apollo 11 spacecraft in July 1969, it also appears to confirm that at least one of the OnePlus 9 series will have a Hasselblad branded camera. The OnePlus 9 is expected to be one of four devices to be announced at the event, along with the OnePlus 9 Pro, the budget model OnePlus 9R, and the highly anticipated OnePlus Watch.
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are expected to feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 888 chip, which is found in the Samsung Galaxy S21. Both will also feature smooth 120Hz displays. It has been suggested that the Hasselblad partnership will only apply to the 9 Pro, but we will have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus 9R is believed to be the official name for the OnePlus 9 Lite. It is expected to sit between the OnePlus 9 and the lower-priced OnePlus Nord and will feature a 6.5-inch 90Hz display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 690, and 8GB RAM.
And then there's the OnePlus Watch. Lau has already confirmed that it will definitely be coming and hinted that it will feature Wear OS.
"What we're trying to do is work with Google to improve connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones to enable better device interoperability across the ecosystem.
We could see the OnePlus Watch announced along with the OnePlus 9 phone.
Rumors indicate that it will have a round watch face, as shown in the renderings above, but beyond the fact that it is real, we have yet to learn much about it.
Expect to know more on March 8 and stay tuned for full details on all new OnePlus devices as soon as they are announced.
