A remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will appear on Nintendo Switch later this year

Nintendo is bringing players back to the Sinnoh region for the first time in 14 years with the remake of "Pokémon Brilliant Diamond" and "Shining Pearl."

As the names suggest, the games are remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, which were released on the Nintendo DS in 2007. The new game will be released for the Nintendo DS in late 2021.

According to a Pokémon Company press release, "The original game has been faithfully recreated and colorfully reimagined for the Nintendo Switch. "The scale of the towns and routes have been carefully recreated, and fans who have played the original game will recognize many familiar places. In addition, not only do you get to enjoy the Pokémon battle scenes up close and personal, but the game also adds some of the easy-to-understand, player-friendly conveniences introduced in recent video games in the Pokémon series."

"The new Pokémon remake is a great addition to the Pokémon series,"

said the director of the game.

The remake is being made not by Game Freak, the usual Pokémon developer, but by ILCA, the studio that helped develop titles like Code Vein, NieR:Automata, Yakuza 0, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. However, Junichi Masuda of The Pokémon Company will still be directing the remake. He previously worked on 2018's Pikachu, Let's Go! and "Eevee, Let's Go!" and served as producer on 2019's "Sword & Shield."

The trailers for "Brilliant Diamonds" and "Shining Pearl" suggest two games that won't deviate too much from the original. The games appear to be running on the same engine as "Sword & Shield," except that the graphical performance of the Nintendos is improved over the Nintendos.

The Pokémon games are also definitely starting to become obsolete for long-time players. While the series continues to sell phenomenally well, with "Sword & Shield" surpassing 20 million units, longtime fans are now feeling little relief. Nevertheless, the Pokémon games are targeted at a younger generation that may be experiencing turn-based RPGs for the first time. Masuda could also provide a more fulfilling experience for veteran players by adding a "challenge mode," which has not been implemented since 2012's "Black and White 2."

Along with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, The Pokémon Company also announced a new open-world game that appears to remix the standard Pokémon formula: the Pokémon legend Arceus. The game will also be set in the Sinnoh region, but "long before the established setting of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl," according to a Reddit leaker, and the game is set in feudal Sinnoh, and the feudal Japanese architecture in the trailer also suggests this The game is set in feudal Sinnoh, and the feudal Japanese architecture in the trailer seems to suggest this.

(Somehow, pokeball technology existed at the time. Whether smallpox and measles will also appear remains to be seen.)

From the game trailer, Arceus appears to be in the early stages of development. At this point, the graphics lack considerable polish and the frame rate is erratic. But that is to be expected from a game that is more than a year away. Pokémon Legend: Arceus is targeted for release in early 2022.

The company also gave an update on New Pokémon Snap, which will be released on April 30.

From the trailer below, the new game seems to be a natural evolution of the Nintendo 64 original. In other words, you can't run around trying to get the perfect shot. Just like in the original game, players must walk along a predetermined path and take a picture before the Pokémon loses focus. At least this time, users can edit their photos.
