The long-in-development "Halo" TV series has found a new home at Paramount Plus. The adventures of Master Chief and Cortana will not air on Showtime, but will air on the streaming network starting March 4.
The report comes from Deadline, which states that ViacomCBS will make the announcement.
Rumors of a Halo TV series began in 2013, with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television helming production; Showtime ordered 10 episodes in 2018, with Kyle Killen of "Mind Games" confirmed as showrunner.
The series is currently in production in Budapest and will debut on new streaming network ParamountPlus in Q1 2022.
David Nevins, chief creative officer of CBS and CEO of Showtime Networks, believed that "Halo" would be an asset in promoting the new streaming service.
"We were looking for a signature show beyond CBS All Access' 'Star Trek' franchise and what would be the definitive series for Paramount Plus," Nevins told Deadline in an interview.
"It could be the definitive show for a newish service with all the power of an entertainment company behind it," Nevins added.
For ViacomCBS, Showtime should remain a "premium adult programming service" network, and Paramount Plus feels it can appeal to a younger, streaming-first demographic.
"'Halo' always fit the bill, but we saw it and felt it could work," Nevins said.
According to Deadline, prior to Pandemic, the Halo TV series had filmed 55% to 65% of its first season; Showtime will continue to produce the show.
The "Halo" TV series stars American-Canadian actor Pablo Schreiber ("First Man") as Master Chief, Jen Taylor (voice of the "Halo" games) as Cortana, Natasha McElhone ("Californication") play Dr. Catherine Halsey.
