The best reason to get Disney Plus is here today — it's not WandaVision

Forget Star Wars. Forget The Simpsons. Forget Wonder Vision, too. The best reason to get Disney Plus dropped today in the form of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and friends.

Yes, it's time to start the music. Time to turn on the lights. Today it's time to watch The Muppet Show on Disney's streaming service.

I confess I was quite young when The Muppet Show went off the air in 1981, but I have dim memories of Jim Henson's variety show with "Space Pigs," "Dr. Bunsen and the Beaker," and of course "Statler and Waldorf" wielding wisdom from the box seat. are dimly remembered. [Mark Hamill, John Cleese, Twiggy, Alice Cooper, Liberace, Crystal Gayle, John Denver, Lynda Carter, Carol Burnett, etc.

For those who are younger than I am, and who got to know the Muppets from later movies and shows like "The Muppet Babies," watching the original series is a great way to see where the Muppets got their start. While still family-friendly, The Muppet Show is a bit edgier than its follow-ups. Plus, it can explain to kids what made Jim Neighbors famous.

Where else can you hear Elton John singing Crocodile Rock with a bunch of alligators or Steve Martin playing Dueling Banjos with a jug band? And let's not forget Mahana Mahana.

The Friday release of "Disney Plus" will not only include all five seasons (102 episodes), but will also include skits that only appeared on the UK version of the show, so unless you're a diehard fan, you (at least for you) will see a whole new segment will be available to watch.

However, Disney has already issued a warning regarding the content of the show, which includes negative and abusive portrayals of people and cultures. This warning probably refers to more than a beaker that blows up or the inexplicable dialogue of a Swedish chef.

It has been a decade since Jason Segel's film The Muppets reinvigorated the franchise with the perfect combination of nostalgia. A re-release of the original series might inspire someone to try to recreate the magic of Jim Henson.
