iOS 15.4.1 update is out — it should fix iPhone battery drain issue

iOS 15.4.1 is now available for download, and while it does not introduce a number of new iPhone features like this month's iOS 15.4 update, it does include one enhancement that many iPhone users will appreciate.

When iOS 15.4 was introduced about two weeks ago, it brought complaints that the iOS software update was causing battery issues for some users. In some cases, iPhone owners were reporting that the update cut their phone's battery life in half.

This is not uncommon with early software updates. In fact, Apple claimed to some users on Twitter that it is normal for apps and features to require up to 48 hours to adjust after an update.

Still, follow-up releases usually appear to address issues that arose with the first update. iOS 15.4.1 release notes clearly state that this update addresses complaints about battery life after the release of iOS 15.4

By reference, the release notes for iOS 15.4.1 state.

For what it's worth, I was on the beta version of iOS 15.4 throughout February and March and never encountered any battery life issues on more than one device. i was on the beta version of iOS 15.4 with my iPhone 11 Pro Max when I went on a week-long road trip and forgot my charger. I forgot my charger. Still, I was able to earn enough battery life to last me a week on a phone running iOS 15.4, so I concluded that not everyone was affected by the iOS 15.4 battery bug.

Still, if you feel like your battery has been draining rapidly since iOS 15.4 was installed, you will want to download iOS 15.4.1 now. Another reason to get this software update - it also patches a pretty serious security hole in iOS 15.

The original iOS 15.4 update introduced many new features to the iPhone, including the ability to unlock with Face ID even when wearing a face mask. The iOS 15.4 update also supports digital ID cards and driver's licenses in states that support this feature.

To update your iPhone to iOS 15.4.1, go to the Settings app and select General. Under "Software Update," the iOS 15.4.1 update should be waiting.
