The new MacBook Pro 13-inch has arrived with all the power of the Apple M2 processor. While many reviewers have found the laptop smooth to use, one user noted some troubling concerns.

This is the second time the MacBook Pro's performance has made the news recently. Earlier this week, it was reported that the MacBook Pro's M2 test revealed a surprise downgrade. Specifically, some new MacBook Pros with 256GB SSDs appear to have slower read and write speeds than 13-inch MacBook Pro SSDs with M1 from 2020.

Now tech YouTuber Vadim Yuryev is tweeting that the internal temperature of the MacBook Pro 2022 reached a whopping 108C (226F) (open in new tab). He also reported that the machine "slotted down hard on the M2 chip," which affected performance.

This YouTuber stated that exporting 8K RAW footage pushed the MacBook Pro 2022 to its limits. [Exporting 8K RAW footage is an extreme feature. It is not necessary for most average users, and this seems to be an experiment aimed at pushing the Pro to its limits.

Therefore, it is not surprising that this laptop throttled its performance to cool its components under pressure; you would not need to worry about such temperatures as you would not need to do anything similarly taxing on a MacBook. If you want to export 8K video, you would certainly be better off with a MacBook Pro 14-inch or MacBook Pro 16-inch, both of which will be available in 2021.

In his extensive testing and review of the MacBook Pro 13-inch, our computing writer Tony Polanco found the new MacBook Pro to be "the most powerful 13-inch MacBook Pro ever released." In fact, he also noted that "like the 2020 M1 MacBook Pro, this laptop does not get excessively warm under normal use." It is one of the "coolest" laptops he has used and tested.

We also ran battery tests on the new MacBook Pro and found it to be the longest lasting laptop ever. After a record 18 hours and 20 minutes of continuous web surfing at 150 nits screen brightness, the new MacBook Pro 13-inch was out of battery, but still cool to the touch.

Perhaps Apple could have installed a better cooling system to prevent the laptop from throttling during Vadim Yuriev's experiment. In reality, however, most users use their laptops for everyday tasks, not for 8K video editing. In that regard, the MacBook Pro 2022 is a beast thanks to its M2 chip.
