The ending of "The Last of Us" Episode 2 left new fans puzzled as to how gamers ever endured the event. This Sunday's episode, which followed Joel (Pedro Pascal), Tess (Anna Torv), and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they escaped the quarantine zone, however, gave everyone a big sign that "the trauma will continue and morale will probably never improve."
And as someone who watched the first four episodes of the series for "The Last of Us" review, I can say with confidence that this reflects one of "The Last of Us'" skills. While some may have thought that the zombie drama genre has long since passed its prime, TLOU still manages to squeeze out emotions on a regular basis.
But as we'll see below, you'll want to channel HBO Maxx next week. Trust me.
Of course, this story contains spoilers for "The Last of Us," but Twitter users have done well to avoid spoiling the series for others online. This section will discuss the details of the second episode of the series, which was also discussed in the "The Last of Us" Episode 2 summary.
As gamers knew before entering HBO's "The Last of Us," Tess is not long for this world. She sacrificed herself in Episode 2, destroying a horde of infected people and throwing Joel and Ellie off their tracks. But Anna Torv's anguished, angry, bleak dialogue to Joel was simply amazing when she made up her mind.
The best reaction came from user @psychedamygdala, who asked, "Why did people play such a heartbreaking game? The question of whether this would happen in every episode must have crossed many people's minds.
Twitter @spugettycity (opens in new tab) loves The Last of Us and somehow manages to destroy it emotionally despite his prior knowledge of the game." tlou is too f**king good im so happy (i'm devastated by each episode even though I already know what's going to happen)," he wrote.
Gamer Alejandra (@alesunflowers) (open in new tab), sad despite knowing what was coming, wrote, "I knew it was coming in episode 2 of tlou but it still left me sobbing ugh another 10/10 episode " he wrote.
Then, "That line in the tlou episode..." tweeted Chrissy, aka @mochilord (opens in new tab), but it's hard to think which line Chrissy is referring to. My guess is "Save who you can save," but it could have been any of Anna Torv's lines in that scene about her not leaving.
User Jordan Gibbs, aka @SiberiaMachines, found humor in the sadness. Gibbs shared a video of Frank, a character from Danny DeVito's It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, getting emotionally angry and wrote, "At the end of episode 2 of #TheLastOfUs, I had to make Tess' fate bittersweet once again! Me when ......."

"The Last of Us," as anyone who has played the game knows, is full of emotional moments that will make you shed a tear and put your jaw on the floor.I can't explain why "The Last of Us" Episode 3 has sparked so much chatter, but I can say that it forced me to do what I've always wanted to do: start a "Best TV Show of the Year Episode List." I have already watched it twice, and even the second viewing did not diminish its impact.
