"Sandman" Season 2 has so far been spared from Netflix's recent TV show cull. Fans (open in new tab) and critics alike loved the first season, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's DC Comics masterpiece, and were eager for a continuation. Now we have an idea of when exactly the continuation might come.
At Fan Expo San Francisco, Mason Alexander Park (open in new tab), who played Desire in season one, confirmed two things. First, Netflix has not stated that the next installment of The Sandman will be Season 2; second, filming will begin this summer. No details have been given as to how long that filming will take or how many episodes it will be, but this at least seems like a positive sign that more episodes are on the way.

However, "Sandman" fans may have a long wait for these episodes to appear on the Netflix app. As we previously speculated about upcoming episodes, it could be a long time from the time filming begins until the episodes finally air.
There is now a significant amount of concrete evidence to help speculate when the next episode of Sandman will be delivered.
The first season of Sandman began in October 2020 and finished filming in August 2021. The final 11 episodes, roughly one month per episode, would have taken almost a full year to shoot.
The same timeline would mean that if filming began in early July 2023, filming for an additional 11-episode season would end around the end of May 2024. After that, it would take another year for the season 1 episodes to air, so under the same timeline, we may not see episodes of "The Sandman" until May 2025. This is definitely bad news for "Sandman" fans.
However, Netflix is intentionally not calling it Season 2, perhaps because it won't release a full season of episodes at once. Instead, they might release a collection of five or six episodes covering just one volume of the Gaiman DC comics. In that case, it would take five to six months to shoot and another five to six months to appear on the screen. That would make the expected arrival date of the new episodes of "The Sandman" in the summer of 2024 seem more realistic.
Our current best estimate remains August 2024, exactly two years after the release of Season 1. This fits the timeline we just laid out in the Season 2 hub and makes sense from a marketing and planning perspective to keep a similar release schedule on the calendar.
Additionally, for fans of the Netflix series, getting "Sandman" sooner is definitely good news. So stay tuned to our Sandman Season 2 coverage for more updates as the next batch of episodes begins production.
