"Grand Theft Auto 6" has been suggested by publisher Take-Two to be released in 2024, finally bringing a new GTA game after almost a decade.
While Take-Two did not explicitly name GTA 6 in its annual earnings statement, the company said it will release a number of games between April 2024 and March 2025 (which is the time frame covering Take-Two's fiscal year) that will help pull in billions of dollars.
"We look forward to ushering in this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles in FY2025 that we believe will set new standards in the industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in net sales," Take-Two explained.
Based on this, we and other media outlets expect that one of those titles will be "GTA 6". This is based on some speculation, fueled by simmering rumors of a new "GTA" game. And given the numbers that Take-Two is touting, they probably won't be able to rake in the cash without pushing out a massive game like GTA.
From what we've seen in the soup of GTA 6 rumors, GTA 6 will probably be released in the fall of 2024.
"GTA V" was released on September 17, 2013, so there is tentative precedent for a game to be released in the fall. In addition, even high-profile games like "Grand Theft Auto" are hit or miss when it comes to summer releases. This is because people tend to go outside during that time of year.
As for the details of GTA 6 itself, rumors abound about everything from its setting to its characters. However, when a leaked video of GTA 6 was leaked, developer Rockstar confirmed that it was real. The footage appears to show a refreshed Vice City, a satire of GTA's Miami.
GTA 6 is also expected to feature multiple characters, including the first female player in the GTA series. And the combat, driving, and overall game action is expected to be an evolution of that of "GTA V", utilizing the Xbox Series X and PS5, especially the latter hardware with its advanced haptics.
Expect more "GTA 6" rumors to spring up as the year progresses.
