Samsung's TM Roh just unpacked the thinner Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 ahead

With Galaxy Unpacked just a week away, the details of what will be announced at the July 26 event are becoming clearer. This time, the information comes from a top Samsung official.

TM Roh, Samsung's president and head of its mobile division, posted a preview of Galaxy Unpacked today (July 18), apparently revealing all the products Samsung plans to unveil next week. As we already knew from the explicit reference to foldable devices in Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked announcement, it is naturally the foldable devices that are getting the most attention.

However, Roh's blog post was even more specific, stating that "We have innovated to make our latest foldable device slimmer and lighter than the previous generation," which clearly refers to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5

Samsun said.

The portability of Samsung's foldable phones has received sharp attention in recent weeks, especially after the release of the Google Pixel Fold. Its foldable phone is similar to the current Galaxy Z Fold 4, but is slightly thinner at 0.2 inches when open, compared to Samsung's foldable at 0.25 inches.

Roh does not mention the Pixel Fold name, but seems to acknowledge the importance of making Samsung's foldable phones thinner. A millimeter difference in device thickness may not sound like a big change, but every gram, every millimeter of a foldable device requires an engineering breakthrough. It requires craftsmanship and passion. If done well, the benefits to the user are enormous," he writes.

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are rumored to feature a new water-drop hinge. One reported benefit of this new design is the possibility that the new Samsung foldables will be thinner than before, improving portability.

However, Roh sees more than a more streamlined design. He also writes that the new phone will "literally offer the most flexible camera experience in a Samsung Galaxy."

It is difficult to connect this claim with the rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. It is possible that Roh is referring to the ability of Fold and Flip users to position the phone's camera in unique ways, such as the ability to take selfies with a more powerful rear lens. But this is typical of the best folding phones, not just Samsung's.

We expect more than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 next week, and Roh seemingly confirmed other devices that will get stage time at Galaxy Unpacked. Samsung executives specifically mentioned both Samsung tablets and wearables when setting the stage for next week's announcement.

"The Samsung Galaxy Tab and wearables are designed in the same spirit (as Samsung's foldable devices)," Roh wrote." They work in harmony with each other in an ecosystem that opens up a powerful connected experience that serves as a seamless extension of your needs, priorities and unique personality."

We have heard chatter that both the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9 are likely candidates to share the stage with Samsung's new folderable. Roh's mention seems to confirm that speculation.

Regardless of what Samsung announces next week, pre-orders for new products are already available through Samsung's website and the Shop Samsung app. if you register your name and email address with samsung by July 25, the day before Unpacked, you will receive a Samsung will give you a $50 credit toward the purchase of the new product.

Galaxy Unpacked will take place a week later in Korea on Wednesday, July 26. The event will begin at 7 a.m. ET / 4 a.m. ET / noon ET, with a live stream hosted by Samsung.
