Foldable iPads Take a Backseat to Apple's OLED Migration - What We Know

Earlier this week, we heard news suggesting that Apple may be making a major investment in foldable displays. If true, it could bring us closer to the launch of the foldable iPhone Flip and the inclusion of foldable displays on other Apple products, including the iPad.

Sadly, there may be bad news on the foldable iPad front, as Nikkei Asia reports that future foldable tablets may be sacrificed as Apple focuses on moving the iPad display to OLED They say.

The report cites an anonymous source in the supply chain, who says that Apple will begin "evaluating the possibility of producing a foldable iPad" once it has finished switching its other lineups to OLED. Rumors suggest that the iPad Pro will make this switch next year, while another rumor claims that the iPad Air and iPad mini could be upgraded as early as 2026. There is no doubt that the entry-level iPad will have to wait at least a year or two before it gets the same treatment.

The report notes that there is no "specific timeline" for the development of a folding iPad. However, judging from what is written in this report and the rumors we have already heard, it may be quite some time before development begins. Somewhere in the next decade at the earliest.

On another small note, the first OLED MacBook may be available "as early as" late 2025 - but it doesn't say which MacBook, while the MacBook Air is rumored to be the first to feature OLEDs, the MacBook Pro It is speculated that the MacBook Pro may be upgraded in 2026. Frankly, this seems like a feature that will either be on the MacBook Pro or one of Apple's premium stand-alone displays, such as the Studio Display.

However, we don't know what will actually happen. Apple may accelerate the schedule for a foldable iPad in the next few years, or it may scrap all the slivers of plans it already has in favor of other projects. [Rumors about a foldable iPhone have been heard here and there over the past few years, and the prospect of a 2025 release has been thrown around from time to time.

And given that we also don't know what form the iPhone Flip will take, it is possible that both the iPhone Flip and the foldable iPad are the same thing. It would depend, though, on the size of the inner screen and what features the device would have. An iPhone that can't make calls is unlikely, but at the same time displays like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 5 are firmly in the tablet realm.

Sadly, all this seems to leave us with no choice but to sit tight and wait to see what happens. Don't expect anything major to happen anytime soon, but until then, you can keep up with the latest news and rumors at the iPhone Flip hub.
