Apple Music is already one of the largest providers of Dolby Atmos audio tracks, but soon, thanks to a possible new incentive program that rewards artists who record in the spatial audio format, more tracks are likely to be added to the service.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple intends to pay artists more royalties if their music is played in the spatial audio format, which should result in an influx of new Dolby Atmos audio songs for streamers to hear This should cause an influx of new Dolby Atmos audio songs for streamers to listen to. Why the sudden interest? It's because of the rumored release of the Apple Vision Pro headset (scheduled for release in early 2024) and the AirPods Max 2. If a lot of new music is released at the same time these products are about to launch, it could spark interest in the new devices.
Dolby Atmos is already one of the most well-known in the home theater arena, and thanks to streaming services like Apple Music, it is also a success in the music industry.
In short, Atmos provides a higher level of surround sound detail than typical stereo or 5.1 surround sound mixes. Apple introduced Dolby Atmos audio in its Apple Music service in 2021 and has been a major proponent of the format ever since.
There are currently more than a dozen Apple devices that support spatial audio, including the latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the AirPods Pro 2 and the current generation AirPods Max. With the possibility of two more devices on the horizon, this is a great opportunity for Apple to invest in its Dolby Atmos music catalog.
