Editor's note: A trailer for "GTA 6" has already been released!
Next year may bring two highly anticipated gaming products: the PS5 Pro and Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). Even more exciting, according to new leaked information, the new PlayStation console and the long-awaited sequel may be released as a PS5 Pro + GTA 6 bundle.
According to Alex Smith, a developer formerly with Sony-owned Bend Studio and indie developer Ember Lab, PlayStation has acquired the distribution rights to GTA 6.
This does not mean that the game will be exclusive to the PS5, but that it will almost certainly be released on the Xbox Series X as well. However, "GTA 6" will be sold primarily on the PS5 version, and Sony will work with the developer, Rockstar, to cross-promote the game.
Smith claims that one of these promotions will be a PS5 Pro bundle that includes the PS5 Pro console and the "GTA 6" game software; the demand for the PS5 Pro will be high and GTA 6 will almost certainly become one of the best selling video games of all time! So it is not hard to imagine that such a bundle would be an immediate bestseller.
It should also be noted that the former developer has not provided any details on pricing or release date, and the above information should be considered unverified. First, Sony has not yet officially confirmed the PS5 Pro, and while a GTA 6 bundle seems quite logical (Sony/Rockstar released a PS3 GTA 5 bundle in 2013), until official information is available, this should be classified as rumor, not fact .
In the same social media post, Alex Smith also claimed that "GTA 6" will not be released simultaneously on PC and consoles. Instead, it will be released on PC one year after its debut on consoles.
This will be a blow to PC gamers who were hoping to dive into the world of "GTA 6" as soon as possible. However, Rockstar has a history of releasing PC ports at a later date; GTA 5 was initially released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, but was not ported to PC until April 2015. A similar delayed development was seen with Red Dead Redemption 2, which was released in October 2018 for consoles, but did not get on PC until November of the following year.
A simultaneous release on all platforms would be welcome, but that has not been Rockstar's style in the past, and that may not change with "GTA 6". For now, we'll have to wait for the first trailer for specific details. The good news is that GTA 6 is scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, December 5 at 9:00 a.m. ET/6:00 a.m. PT.
