The Galaxy S24 Ultra is one of the most anticipated phones of 2024 and promises to be more than just a refresh. Why. Because Samsung is actually rethinking what makes a smartphone truly smart.
In fact, Samsung has already teased a surprising number of details about the phone, especially the new AI features. Additionally, there are tons of leaked information about the design, performance, cameras, etc.
This flagship definitely has the potential to be the best phone of 2024. But what is actually new? Here are the seven biggest Galaxy S24 Ultra rumors so far that you should know about.
Samsung may follow Apple's lead by using titanium for the sides of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Not only is titanium tougher than aluminum; the S24 Ultra is said to weigh 8.21 ounces versus the previous model's 8.25 ounces, which should make it a lighter design.
Yes, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is even lighter at 7.81 ounces, but it does not have a built-in stylus like the S24 Ultra.
The rumored colors of the Galaxy S24 Ultra may be quite vibrant, with black and titanium gray leading the way, as well as violet and yellow. Online-only colors like orange, light blue, and light green may also be available.
The biggest upgrade for the Galaxy S24 Ultra should be generative AI, and Samsung has teased multiple features that it hopes will make your life easier. For example, AI Translate Call will allow you to call someone who speaks another language and get real-time voice and text translations.
Other generative AI features will also be coming. Samsung Gauss, a generative AI model developed by Samsung Research, can assist in composing emails and summarizing documents. This AI can also generate and edit images and convert low-resolution images to high-resolution.
If this sounds similar to the Google Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, you're not alone. However, we expect Samsung to do more than simply play catch-up. There are rumors that Samsung may lock some AI features behind a paywall, but that's ridiculous and I don't believe it.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra will probably stick with the 6.8-inch OLED display, but there could be some pretty big upgrades under the hood. First, according to the source of the leak, Ice Universe, the S24 Ultra will reach 2,500 nits peak brightness, compared to the S23 Ultra's 1,750 nits.
Even better, the S24 Ultra is also said to increase the refresh rate from 120Hz to 144Hz. This could be a great upgrade for those who like to play the latest games.
Camera rumors for the Galaxy S24 Ultra are all over the place, but there are plenty of exciting tidbits: for one, the 200MP main camera could have a bigger and brighter sensor to compete with the best camera phones.
But the biggest buzz, however, concerns the Galaxy S24 Ultra's zoom feature. Samsung would switch from a 10MP 3x telephoto lens and a 10x telephoto zoom dual lens to a 10MP 3x telephoto lens and a sharper 50MP 5x zoom lens. However, Samsung will be able to achieve optical-level image quality through increased resolution and pixel binning.
The iPhone 15 and OnePlus Open utilize something similar with their respective zoom cameras, so it may be true that Samsung will take the same approach.
Although this is not official, Samsung has revealed a new Zoom Anyplace camera technology that could easily be included in the S24 Ultra. This combines a 200MP sensor and AI to improve zoom capabilities.
For example, AI can always keep the subject in the frame without having to tap the display, and can record zoomed-in shots and full-frame shots at 4K resolution simultaneously.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra should have a very powerful chip with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It will have its own AI engine for generative AI and will be able to have a night mode for video.
Samsung is once again getting an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which could offer the fastest performance of any Android phone. The Adreno GPU could also offer 25% better performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Gamers will be pleased to see a 40% improvement in ray tracing performance for more realistic lighting in games. Another rumor claims that the S24 Ultra will have up to 16 GB of RAM, a significant leap from the S23 Ultra's maximum of 12 GB.
Samsung is rumored to include new stacked battery technology in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, along with an improved cooling system. Thus, we could see more power in the same space.
Another plus is that the S24 Ultra is said to be upgraded from 45W charging to faster 65W charging. If that happens, it would bring it closer to the upcoming OnePlus 12 and blow away the iPhone 15 Pro's 20W charging.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Galaxy S24 Ultra can shake up the smartphone landscape; the AI capabilities alone could make the iPhone take notice, and with faster refresh rates, a zoom camera upgrade, and faster charging, this should beat could make it a flagship.
Just hope Samsung doesn't raise the price, as $1,200 is already quite expensive and the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
