Good news for those who want to see the "Babylon 5 Remastered" finally released today (January 26), J. Michael Straczynski's sci-fi series has never looked better and is now available to own or to watch on streaming services.

This newly released version of the 90s series uses 4K scans taken from the original camera negatives and looks very sharp. The Warner Bros. team then downscaled the program to HD quality (so it doesn't look eerily sharp), color corrected it, and removed dirt and scratches from the scan.

According to Engadget, Warner Bros. did not make the same mistakes seen on the original "Babylon 5" DVD (or those made by Disney Plus with "The Simpsons"). Babylon 5 Remastered is only in the original 4:3, not the recropped widescreen format.

Also, even though it is a remaster, one should not expect a high-end reconstruction. In fact, the low budget of the original show may be reflected a bit more clearly in the series now that it has been cleaned up. The pilot movie for the series, "The Gathering," is also included as a bonus feature.
