According to a new leak, OnePlus will continue its non-smartphone expansion in the new year, releasing an inexpensive fitness tracker.
According to Android Central, the OnePlus Band will be an affordable $40 alternative to the OnePlus Watch, another device confirmed to join the OnePlus lineup. The band is said to be available in the first quarter of 2021 and could appear with the OnePlus 9, which is rumored to arrive in March.
The OnePlus band features water resistance, an AMOLED screen, and a battery that lasts for several days; aside from the Amazfit Band 5 and Xiaomi Mi Band series, most inexpensive fitness trackers are in the $70-$90 price range . In that regard, OnePlus may have drawn inspiration from Xiaomi in particular, as the Mi Band 4 and Mi Band 5 offer the same three features.
Such aggressive pricing, especially for the OnePlus Nord, would also reflect OnePlus' approach to phones that are generally less expensive than their closest rivals.
Unlike the OnePlus Watch with Wear OS, the OnePlus Band may use its own OS and should be lighter and thinner due to its fitness focus. Interestingly, Android Central reports that OnePlus will sell the OnePlus Band in India first, but the OnePlus Watch appears to be slated for a global release, and all OnePlus phones are available worldwide one can expect the OnePlus Band to be sold in other regions as well.
In any case, an announcement in Q1 2021 means that we won't have to wait long to see what the OnePlus Band has to offer. Assuming that it will be launched near or together with variant models like the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Lite, it will be interesting to see if the devices can interact in any special way.
