If you're having a hard time waiting the 40 days for the first PlayStation 5 units to be delivered, Reddit has a little tidbit for you.
Or at least, it might. See for yourself.
The source of the video is reddit user wsb_BernieMadoff (probably not this person), who claims to have paid someone in Russia €100 (~$117) for the video. Frustratingly, there is clearly more to this clip, as you can see that there is still more to come before the video's progress bar ends. This suggests that the rest of the video contains identical information or simply that the source thinks it can get more money for the juicy content that follows.
This Redditor also asked the r/russian message board for help translating both the on-screen text and the background chat. The former is a standard epileptic warning, but the latter is somewhat more explicit:
- "Why does Sony need a double camera for two users, each connecting to a different Bluetooth?" [It's like a double camera on a cell phone."
- "Portrait mode?"
- "Yes."
- "People are divided on whether the clip is legitimate, and even if it is, whether it was worth the money, given that the majority of the footage is strikingly similar to what Sony had already demonstrated in June.
Personally, I would give this video the benefit of the doubt. If this video is nothing more than the classic PlayStation login icon added and pasted onto a TV, it is very well done. Also, given that Sony has only announced white pads and consoles, some would say that a black control pad is definitive, but I think it is near inevitable that a black pad will eventually make an appearance. Furthermore, this would not be the first time a black PS5 pad has leaked.
On the other hand, wsb_BernieMadoff is not entirely convinced. They write, "Scam or not, we are happy to at least release the video for the community."
The PlayStation 5 will be available in the US on November 12 for $499 or $399, depending on whether you can live without a Blu-ray drive. However, those who have not yet pre-ordered can only wish them luck. The pre-order process has been twisting and turning, and the console is almost immediately sold out everywhere. We'll be keeping an eye out for where inventory is coming back, so bookmark this page if you're still looking.
