Pre-orders for Sony's PS5 will finally open on September 9, meaning PlaySation fans may be able to pre-order the next-generation console before its launch around November.
This is according to PlayStation's regular tipster and commentator @IronManPS5 on Twitter, who doesn't exactly have the most reputable track record. However, given that the PS5 is slated to launch in the holiday season of 2020 (or around November), it would not be surprising if PS5 pre-orders begin next month.
However, it is not yet known how much the PS5 will cost. Based on leaked information, rumors, and speculation to date, it is likely to be around $450 to $500.
However, it promises 10.28 teraflops of graphics power and a super-fast SSD to eliminate game loading times. It is also expected to include 3D audio support and a new DualSense controller, packed with tactile features for a more immersive experience.
Sony will get a feel for how much people are willing to pay for the next-generation console once the price tag goes up once pre-orders begin in a few weeks.
Microsoft has also yet to reveal the price of the Xbox Series X, which is expected to be below the PS5. The two companies may be playing a game of price chicken to see which will blink first and reveal the price of its next-generation console.
However, the Xbox Series X is likely to have fewer first-party games than the PS5 at launch. So even if Sony has a more expensive console, a better launch game lineup, including titles like "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," could win the attention of gamers who are trying to decide which console they want.
Also, Microsoft's ambition for the next generation of consoles seems to be more about building the Xbox ecosystem than selling large numbers of consoles. In a sense, therefore, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will not compete with each other as PlaySation and Xbox have fought in the past.
As for the last point, time will tell. Also, there is definitely still a rivalry between the two companies, as both companies are still keeping matters close to their chests regarding the price of their game consoles.
