A major Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 leak has confirmed some key features, but it also indicates that Samsung's new tablet may be less capable than expected.
This latest leak comes from Pricebaba, citing Twitter leaker Ishan Agarwal: While there are some obvious improvements compared to the Galaxy Tab S6, a few changes indicate that the standard Tab S7 may be less powerful than the more premium entry-level device compared to the Tab S7 Plus.
The Tab S7 has a Snapdragon 865 chipset, so it should have some processing power there. However, the Tab S7 will not have the newer, faster Snapdragon 865 Plus chip.
In the iPad Pro lineup, the 11-inch model and the 12.9-inch device share the same powerful A12Z Bionic chip and storage.
The Tab S7's 11-inch display appears to have a 120 Hz refresh rate, but the panel appears to be LCD rather than OLED like previous Galaxy Tabs. This seems like a noticeable downgrade and may lure users to the more premium Tab S7 Plus.
The Tab S7's battery life appears to be slightly longer than the Tab S6; the S7's battery is claimed to be 8,000 mAh, while the S6's capacity is 7,040 mAh. At least it looks better than the iPad Pro 11-inch's rumored 7,812 mAh battery.
RAM capacity is not mentioned in the leak, but is expected to be 6 or 8 GB based on other leaked information. Listed is 128GB of storage capacity, plus SD expansion options up to 1TB.
One rendered image provided by Pricebaba does not reveal much, but the bezel surrounding the display is quite thin, with a front camera faintly visible on the left side and buttons at the top edge. The front camera has a resolution of 8 MP and the rear sensor is 13 MP.
Leaks indicate that the Tab S7 will be available in either Mystic Bronze or Mystic Black.
As for size and weight, the Tab S7 will measure 165.3 x 253.8 x 6.3 mm (6.51 x 9.99 x 0.25 inches) and weigh 498 g (17.6 oz). It is larger in all dimensions than the Galaxy Tab S6; it is slightly deeper, taller, and heavier than the 11-inch iPad Pro, but thinner.
Leaks claim that the Tab S7 will feature AKG-tuned quad speakers. We had expected AKG's involvement since previous leaks had an AKG logo on the back of the tablet, but the inclusion of quad speakers should prove to be an excellent premium feature.
As for accessories, the Tab S7 comes with an S Pen, which can be stored in a slot on the back of the tablet like previous Galaxy Tab S series. It is also supposed to come with a keyboard cover, which is a generous gesture on Samsung's part.
The Tab S7 is said to have a fingerprint sensor on the home button to unlock the Tab S7. However, it is believed that the Tab S7 Plus will have an under-display fingerprint scanner, a feature commonly found on recent flagship Android phones.
The Tab S7 is one of several big announcements to look forward to at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5; the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Watch 3 are also expected to share the stage. However, based on the specs, the 11-inch iPad Pro is nothing to fear from this tablet. The Galaxy Tab S7 appears to be a rival to the iPad Air.
