Fossil's Razer brand smartwatch is weird but great

Fossil and Razer are about to launch the hottest technology partnership of the year with the $329 limited edition Razer x Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch, available January 10, 2021, in a limited edition of just 1,337 units.

Unveiled at CES 2022, the Razer x Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch is a repackaged version of the Fossil Gen 6, with hardware details and watch face designed with Razer users in mind. While we wouldn't call this collaboration a "gaming smartwatch," the subtle Razer logo and nod to the brand's iconic neon green hue make it impossible to mistake it for any other wearable from the Fossil group.

The smartwatch has a matte black 44mm case and a special silicone strap in two colors, black and green. On the buckles of both straps is "Razer" with the brand's stylized logo.

The Razer x Fossil Gen 6 features three different Razer watch faces. The text face displays the time digitally in italics, while the analog face displays the Razer logo and complications. The most interesting watch face is the Chroma, which has a rotating color dial with four different color settings to match the light settings on the gaming keyboard. [If you are a gamer or a fan of Razer products, the Razer x Fossil Gen 6 is great. The watch is self-aware and will not only match your peripherals, but will also let you know when you should stand.

How do I become one of the lucky 1,337 Razer x Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch owners? First, let me note this amount of respect for mid-2000s Internet slang that I was completely unaware of before I put this story together. And as soon as the phrase "leetspeak," came up, Fossil lost me. Still, to get your hands on the groovy limited edition gaming wearable, you'll need to set a reminder for January 10.

In addition to the Razer x Fossil Gen 6, the Fossil Group has announced the Skagen Gen 6 smartwatch for $295. The unisex Skagen version of the smartwatch promises a minimalist Danish design with a choice of four different case and strap options. The stainless steel mesh band is particularly nice. And like the Razer collaboration, the 42mm Skagen Gen 6 smartwatch offers a carefully curated selection of watch faces curated for the brand.

As a reminder, the Razer x Fossil Gen 6 and Skagen Gen 6 smartwatches are mostly Fossil Gen 6, which launched in August 2021; the Gen 6 offers SpO2 monitoring, on-wrist calling for both iOS and Android users support, and brings a modernized Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ chipset, promising improved battery efficiency (or full 24 hours of use) and future compatibility with Wear OS 3.

Wear OS 3 is not yet compatible with Fossil's latest smartwatch line, but the Gen 6 is promised to receive an official update by the end of the year. Nevertheless, the company recently rolled out offline support for Spotify and may introduce more updates for users before Wear OS 3 is released.
