The Peacemaker TV show brings one of the breakout characters from James Gunn's Suicide Squad to the small screen at home. As such, expect the kind of bizarre and unintelligible behavior exhibited by John Cena, who stole nearly every scene in the DC movie. And he is not the only one taking on this mission.
The film reunites the Peacemaker with John Economos and Emilia Harcourt, two operatives who helped the Suicide Squad in the film. But that's not the real big news. Peacemaker has decided to get a pet. Of course, in the name of patriotism, it's an eagle. And it seems that Eagly will be a beloved character in his own right; it was Gunn himself, the creator/writer/co-director of the series, who revealed at the DC Fun Dome that Eagly is "the star of the show."
So what should we expect from The Peacemaker? And when will it come? Let's take a quick look.
The teaser trailer for "The Peacemaker" released on DC Fandome begins where the post-credits scene from "Suicide Squad" ended. Peacemaker is frustrated that the janitor (Rizwan Manji) doesn't know who he is, which sets the mood.
The scene then shows the Peacemaker blowing things up, sticking his crotch out, bending forward enough to look behind himself, and shooting the "peace" symbol (in his crotch) into a metal surface.
The Peacemaker trailer reveals enough to give us an idea of the plot of the show. The Peacemaker is still alive and working for Amanda Waller. However, he is now working for one of her men, Clemson Mahn (Chukwudi Iusi). Thus, he begins working with a new field handler, Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), and tactical expert John Economos (Steve Agee). Their team also includes Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), who at least seems interested in the Peacemaker's humorous banter. And then there is Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), also on the team. He is a crime-fighting vigilante.
When Peacemaker is not on duty, he is at home with his father, Aggie Smith (Robert Patrick); the two seem to have a lot of problems, and the dear old father calls his son "Nancy Boy."
The Peacemaker is a bit of a reunion from "Suicide Squad," where Cinna reunites with Agee and Holland, who played (respectively) John Economos and Emilia Harcourt in that film. They reported to Amanda Waller in the same film, but Viola Davis did not return.
Other big names include Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day") as Aggie Smith, father of Christopher Smith (aka Peacemaker).
Danielle Brooks ("Orange is the New Black") seems to have a big role in the series, as her character Leota Adebayo seems to spend a lot of time talking to Peacemaker.
The cast includes:
Peacemaker can be seen online at HBO Maxx starting January 13. There will be a total of eight episodes, released weekly.
Fandom (via ScreenRant) reported that the first three episodes - titled "A Whole New Whirled," "Best Friends Never," and "Better Goff Dead" - will come out together on release day. But that was around the time we thought January 16 would be.
Is patriotism a force to be reckoned with? If so, the Peacemaker has plenty of that superpower. Be that as it may, Christopher Smith's powers are more human than superhuman.
As we have seen many times in Suicide Squad, Peacemaker is an incredibly accurate marksman and a brilliant fighter. He is also in excellent physical condition.
