Today's Red Sox vs. Astros live stream is about to begin. It puts two very talented left-handers on the mound trying to give their team an early edge in this American League Championship Series. Sale throws against Valdez for this MLB Live Stream.
It's a lefty vs. lefty pitching matchup tonight as Chris Sale takes the ball for the Boosox against the Astros' Flavor Valdez. Sale, 32, is 5-1 with a 3.16 ERA in the regular season since returning from Tommy John surgery, and he is hoping this start will go better than his first postseason start against the Rays, where he pitched just one inning and allowed five runs on four hits. However, the Red Sox came back to win the game 14-6. Sale will play Houston for the first time this year.
Valdez is 11-6 with a 3.14 ERA this season and, like Sale, will be looking to bounce back from this first postseason start. He allowed four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings against the White Sox. Houston shook it off and won 9-4. Valdez is 2-0 in two starts against the Red Sox this season, allowing just two runs in 14.1 innings.
At the plate, the Red Sox will look to Kike Hernandez to continue his run in this series, as he is tied for the postseason lead in hits (10) and home runs (2). He also has the second-most RBI (six) behind Astro Kyle Tucker, who has seven. Tucker also has two home runs.
Both teams won the ALDS in four games. The Red Sox beat the Rays and the Astros beat the White Sox to advance to the ALCS for the fifth straight year.
The Astros enter Game 1 as 1.5-run favorites against the Red Sox. The over/under is 8 runs.
Looking at this series, one has to admire the coaches. Dusty Baker and Tony La Russa were teammates with Hank Aaron and Phil Niekro on the 1971 Braves. La Russa, now 77, is in his first season with this version of the White Sox. He led the team in the last century, from 1979 to 1986. As for the 72-year-old Baker, Houston marks his fifth team, and like La Russa, he has taken every franchise he has managed to the playoffs.
