GameStop is now offering Pro members early access to PS5 restocks and Xbox Series X restocks.
This information was first discovered by popular inventory tracking account Wario64, confirmed by an Instagram post from GameStop's official account. The Early Access program essentially gives customers who sign up for the retailer's premium membership service the opportunity to purchase next-generation game consoles before anyone else.
This Early Access benefit has been confirmed to be for "online consoles"; GameStop previously restocked the Xbox Series X in stores, but did not apply the Pro membership benefit. This early access quota only applies to online purchases of next-generation consoles.
GameStop is not the first retailer to offer an early access quota. Sony Direct previously implemented an invitation-only restocking, giving a specially selected handful of customers the opportunity to purchase the PS5 before later opening the order queue to the general public. Amazon UK also restocked the PS5 earlier this month with an early access period for Prime members.
Since this announcement, GameStop has restocked the PS5 and Xbox Series X at least five times. Each time, inventory of the consoles has sold out before the consoles were available for general sale. However, GameStop's website confirms that any unclaimed inventory will be sold to the general public after the Pro members' early access period ends. Therefore, as consoles become more readily available, it is likely that online restocks will once again be available for purchase by anyone at GameStop.
If you are still looking for a next-generation gaming console, it is well worth signing up for a GameStop Pro membership. The opportunity to purchase a gaming console with little competition could be the difference between scoring a coveted order confirmation email and leaving empty-handed.
Signing up to be a GameStop Pro member is very easy. There is also a free PowerUp Rewards tier, but you won't be the first to get restocks of next-gen consoles; you have to pay to become a Pro member, but it's well worth the money.
Besides priority access to restocks, other benefits of being a Pro member include double reward points on purchases, 10% extra trade-in credit, and a $5 monthly reward certificate.
Pro memberships cost $15 or $20 per year, depending on whether you want a digital or physical subscription to GameInformer magazine; Pro memberships can be applied for now through GameStop's website.
GameStop's Pro membership may make the tricky task of acquiring a high-demand machine much easier. It's a great way to tilt the odds of success in your favor.
