If you've been dreaming of getting your hands on the iPhone 13 as soon as it goes on sale, you may have less than a month to get Apple's new model in your hands--at least, if Front Page Tech and a Korean e-commerce app are to be believed.
According to Front Page Tech, the September 17 date is actually the start date for pre-orders, and the iPhone 13 will be available on September 24. This further adds to previous leaks. The original article continues with information gathered from a Korean e-commerce app.
Images from that app, first posted on Weibo by Chinese site IT Home, claim that the iPhone 13 will ship on Friday, September 17. a report found by MacRumors suggests that Apple will release AirPods 3 on September 30.
While "because a Korean e-commerce app said so" is generally not accepted as incontrovertible evidence, the timing is consistent with other rumors we have heard about the iPhone 13 launch. It is generally accepted that Apple will launch the phone in September, and additional reports from analysts claim that Apple plans to release the new phone in the third week of the month.
When we sat down to figure out the iPhone 13 release date based on past Apple product rollouts, we settled on Tuesday, September 14 as the most likely date. (Apple tends to hold events on Tuesdays, and fall iPhone launches usually occur within the first two weeks of the month. This is an aggressive launch schedule, but not without precedent; Front Page Tech confirms this.
What begins to unravel the Korean e-commerce app story a bit is the claim that the AirPods 3 will not arrive until September 30. Given that Apple is positioning this new generation of wireless earbuds as an accessory for the iPhone 13, it seems unlikely that the release will be staggered two weeks after the iPhone 13's launch. Furthermore, September 30 is a Thursday, and Apple tends to launch products on Fridays.
Nevertheless, these are uncertain times in the tech industry, with chip shortages delaying the launch of all kinds of products, and while the iPhone 13 is reportedly not associated with such a delay, other Apple products like the AirPods 3 could appear at a later date. We don't know if we believe it, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.
Like the iPhone 12 lineup, the iPhone 13 is expected to come in four different models similar in size to the current model. iPhone 13 Pro models will feature an improved ultra-wide camera lens and a 120Hz refresh ProMotion display, are expected to see the biggest changes. The iPhone 13 Pro series is also said to feature an always-on display. [The lower-priced iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini may also feature the LiDAR sensor found in the Pro versions of Apple's smartphones. All iPhone 13 models are also expected to feature the faster and more efficient A15 Bionic chip, a faster 5G modem, and a larger battery.
Some of the most exciting rumors of iPhone 13 upgrades point to a new Computational Photography feature. This could include a portrait video mode and an astrophotography mode for capturing the night sky.
Apple is going to be very busy this fall; in addition to the iPhone 13 and AirPods 4, the company is expected to release the Apple Watch 7, this year's update to its smartwatch lineup. The company is also expected to announce new iPads, including the iPad mini 6 and the 9th generation iPad for schools, and the MacBook Pro may also be updated. It is unclear if Apple will announce these products all at once or if they will be staggered throughout the fall as they have been in the past.
Even if you don't believe the iPhone 13 release schedule presented by Front Page Tech and the Korean e-commerce app, it's clear that we'll see an Apple phone sooner rather than later.
