Bloodborne First-person mod is coming soon — and the Elden Ring might be next

Bloodborne is one of the most beloved games on PS4. But that's not necessarily true, given that Sony hasn't done much with the title recently; Bloodborne is part of Sony's PlayStation Plus collection, but it doesn't run at 4K resolution or 60fps, and no major content updates have There have been no major content updates. However, thanks to an active mod scene, innovative new features have been added to Bloodborne.

The mod comes courtesy of Bloodborne enthusiasts Garden of Eyes and Zullie the Witch, and you can see the modified gameplay on Garden's YouTube channel. Also embedded below are videos:

As the name implies, this project turns "Bloodborne" from a third-person action game into a first-person game. This modification was particularly challenging because the game's camera is supposed to remain in third-person view no matter how much it zooms in on the action. Therefore, Garden and Zullie had to add a pair of insubstantial hands and show all of the game's weapons up close.

Currently, the two modders are still putting the finishing touches on the program. However, the mod will be available "very soon" through Garden's Patreon page, but certain streamers will have access to it before the general public.

On his YouTube page, Garden states that making mods for "Bloodborne" is relatively difficult. First-person mods already exist for the "Dark Souls" series, but all of those games are offered on PC; modding content for PC games is, relatively speaking, much easier than for console games.

"Making mods for 'Bloodborne' was by no means an easy task, given how limited the mod tools are on PS4 compared to PC," he wrote.

While "Bloodborne" appears to be perfectly playable from a first-person perspective, those who choose to install mods may still have to tackle some design issues. To begin with, Bloodborne is a very difficult game, and one of the player's biggest advantages is that enemies can be seen in all directions; Bloodborne's dodging mechanics are fairly forgiving, but they don't do much good if you fall behind traps, ledges, and terrifying monsters.

Additionally, many of Bloodborne's bosses are huge and take up a significant portion of the screen, even in third-person mode. In first-person mode, only small chunks of the bosses are visible. This is not enough to intuit what attack the boss is about to use and whether or not you can avoid it.

Still, it's good to see that Bloodborne's mod scene is alive and well, at least until Sony decides to give the game some love. Even better, when "Elden Ring" is released, Zooley is eager to bring first-person mods to that game as well:

"I can't wait to bring them to 'Elden Ring' too," she wrote in a comment to Garden's video. For now, she will have to wait a few more months.
