Today, Sucker Punch announced that Ghost of Tsushima: Legend will be released later this year as a standalone game. This will allow players who were not interested in the single-player game to try out the game's cooperative multiplayer mode.
Legends was a "free" multiplayer mode released as DLC for those who purchased Ghost of Tsushima. Developer/publishers like Rockstar and Activision have typically released this type of content as standalone games. But the announcement of Sucker Punch is exciting given the nature of Ghosts of Tsushima: it's Legends, not a battle royale mode like Warzone or a sprawling multiplayer experience like GTA Online. Instead, Legends was more like Bloodborne's "Holy Grail Dungeon," small enough to remain as an additional game mode to be played after the campaign is over. But all that is likely to change in the coming weeks as Sucker Punch plans to expand what Legends offers players, including the addition of a new competitive mode called "Rivals."
Ghosts of Versus Ghosts: In Legends' Rivals mode, teams of two play against each other in a competition to defeat the most enemies. The goal is to quickly eliminate enemies and collect the "Magatama" needed to purchase obstacles. You can cast a curse that constantly drains the opposing team's strength or prevent them from purchasing them. Once a certain amount of Magatama are consumed, the enemy's Final Stand appears. The team that defeats it first wins.
The "Rivalry" versus mode is just one of several new features being added to Ghost of Tsushima: Legend. Several updates, including gameplay balancing, new trophies, and weekly Survival Nightmare challenges, will take place on August 20. Major updates (such as Rivals) will be available on September 3, coinciding with the release of Legend by itself. Fans can purchase it on PS4 or PS5 for $19.99 from the PlayStation Store. There is no need to worry about which version to choose, and no matter which "Ghost of Tsushima" they purchase, they can play it with their friends: regardless of whether they own "Legend" (sold separately or included with the full game).
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is always an entertaining addition to a great game. Not only does the low price of Legends give new players a chance to try it out, but Sucker Punch will be supporting the game for the foreseeable future as it is released as a standalone and updates are planned.
