The delay in PS5 games has killed my enthusiasm for Sony consoles

Given that the PS5 launched in late 2020, 2021 was always going to be the year that Sony's new console would shine. And with 10 million units sold so far, the PS5 is sure to be a huge success, even if the PS5 will be hard to restock.

It also saw some impressive exclusives this year, such as "Returnal" and "Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart": It also saw some impressive exclusives this year, such as "Returnal" and "Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart". However, I expected more from Sony in regards to PS5 exclusive games. Sure, the Xbox Series X doesn't have an abundance of exclusive titles either, but Microsoft has optimized it to run multiple generations of Xbox games. Sony touted the PS5 as a next-generation exclusive gaming console.

Aside from the aforementioned games, the PS5's other major exclusive is "Demon's Souls. Death Loop was supposed to be released earlier this year, but was pushed back to September.

And this is just the first delayed domino to fall. God of War 2: Ragnarok was originally scheduled for release in late 2021, but to no one's surprise, it will now be released in 2022. But now, according to Jeff Grubb, a relatively reliable informant on the Giant Bomb show, there are rumors that Sony is "leaning" toward delaying "Horizon Forbidden West" until next year.

I am all for game developers taking the time they need to make their games the best they can be. However, it pains me to see a major title for PS5 being postponed.

I am very lucky to have a PS5 and I love using it. Lately, however, I've noticed that I only fire up the console for work rather than a big gaming session. It's because there aren't a huge amount of games that appeal to me. Sure, I've always said that if I wanted to play God of War, it would be on PS5. However, I have already spent hours immersed in God of War on PS4.

Since I don't have the patience or skill to play Returnal, I was hoping for more new exclusive games to play this year. I am also making some progress on "Demon's Souls" with my shield up, both in-game and in real life.

But the delays of these exclusive games, both confirmed and alleged, have forced me to reconsider my earlier declaration that 2021 would be the year of the PS5, that 2022 might be the year. PS5 could face stiff competition from its rivals.

And with more and more games being released that are optimized for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, including things like Microsoft Flight Simulator, I would now argue that 2021 is the year of the Xbox Series X.
