EA Play Live2021 - What to Expect and How to Watch It

Electronics Arts did not attend E3 2021 in person last month, but the company's "Battlefield 2042" trailer still made a big splash at Microsoft's showcase. This is because there are a lot of games coming from EA's publishers.

To prove it, EA is holding its own event later this month called EA Play Live 2021.

We already know some games that will be there and some that definitely will not. We have also received many other rumors and reports.

So, based on what EA has announced and recent rumors, here's what to expect and how to channel and tune in later this month.

No surprise: DICE's "Battlefield 2042" is arguably EA's biggest game of the upcoming holiday season and will be a deeper introduction to this massive military sim. 128 players on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. competitive matches, but there is no campaign mode in this multiplayer-centric shooter.

There are also rumors of an unannounced mode featuring classic maps and modes from the Battlefield series, but an official announcement is pending EA will host a "Future of FPS" stream on July 7 that will cover both Battlefield and Apex Legends. to be held on July 7.

EA's Dead Space series, which spawned two excellent sci-fi survival horror titles along with a half-baked trilogy conclusion, has been on the shelf since 2013.

VentureBeat reported that EA's Motive studio (Star Wars Squadrons) is working on a modern revival of the original game.

Although only speculation at this point, a proper "Dead Space" revival could be a great jumping off point for continuing the franchise. It is rumored to be appearing at EA Play Live this month, but we will have to wait and see if it comes to fruition.

Here's no shock: Madden NFL 22 will be released in August on a wide range of platforms. The series has seen declining review scores over the past few years, and 2020's Madden NFL 21 appears to have been affected by the pandemic crunch. Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes are both on the cover of this year's game, and a "Dynamic Game Day" feature to add to the atmosphere and a new franchise mode are among the top additions.

The game will launch in August, and EA will discuss the game in more detail in a Spotlight stream on July 19. We speculate that FIFA 22 will also appear on EA Play Live, possibly alongside NHL 22.

EA Sports is planning another stream for July 20, teasing "a very cool new addition to the very popular and long-running EA Sports franchise."

It could be a new snowboarding game from SSX. A new skate game (already announced). Maybe it's the revival of the dormant "NCAA Football" franchise, now that the NCAA has changed its rules on paying college athletes for their likenesses. Any of these are possibilities.

Along with the Dead Space rumors, there is talk of EA announcing a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single-player adventure announced by Respawn for 2019.

The game has sold well and received solid reviews, so a sequel seems likely. Fans are clutching a couple of recent tweets by EA and game publisher Game Informer as potential teasers, but there is a good chance that EA Play Live 2021 will have nothing.

EA is leaning toward more handcrafted, indie-esque games in its EA Originals line, and we'll get our first glimpse of its upcoming Lost in Random gameplay.

Touted as a combination of "explosive dice battles, time-stopping tactics, and card collecting," the game looks like it could be a charming mashup with an appealingly gothic appeal, produced by Zoink, the development team behind EA's original game Fe It is being produced by.

Apologies in advance to rabid BioWare fans. Unfortunately, the studio has already confirmed that its "Mass Effect" and "Dragon Age" sequels in development will skip this year's EA Play Live.

Both games are likely still a ways off, so perhaps they are not ready for such a showcase.

EA Play Live 2021 will take place on July 22 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) and will be streamed on popular platforms such as YouTube and Twitch; it will last 40 minutes and feature a variety of games, including at least some of the titles mentioned above.

As noted above, EA will also host four Spotlight streams prior to the main event: the "Future of First-Person Shooters" stream (1 p.m. ET) on July 8, the "EA <3s Independent Studios” will have a panel discussion with EA Originals developers on July 13 (1 p.m. ET).

Madden NFL 22 Showcase on time on July 19 at 7 p.m. ET (July 20 at 4 p.m. GMT), and another EA Sports stream of surprise games is scheduled for July 20 at 1 p.m. ET (July 20 at 10 a.m. GMT). For more information on all Spotlight streams, click here.
