The Future Games Show is a relatively new addition to E3, debuting last year to fill the void left by the cancellation of E3 2020; at E3 2021, our sister site, GamesRadar's Future Games Show, returned on a more auspicious note with a variety of mid-budget and indie titles across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and returned on a more auspicious note, showcasing a variety of mid-budget and indie titles spanning PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Like last year, there were no blockbuster announcements or industry-shaking announcements at the Future Games Show. However, there were more than 40 games on display, ranging from boxing games that pitted the greats of yesteryear against the rising stars of today, to dot-picture noir thrillers where you play as a detective raccoon.
A detailed description of each title at the Future Games Show would require thousands or tens of thousands of words, but here are a few games that caught the Tom's Guide crew's attention. To see the rest, watch the Future Games Show recording on YouTube or see it embedded below.
The cinematic trailer for Jurassic World was narrated by Jeff Goldblum himself: Jurassic World: Evolution 2, which was also shown at Summer Game Fest and the PC Gaming Show. The cinematic trailer was narrated by Jeff Goldblum himself. At the Future Games Show, however, we got our first glimpse of in-game footage thanks to a feature called the Species Field Guide. This showcases the various dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts that appear in the game. (Jurassic World Jurassic World: Evolution 2 also allows flying and marine reptiles, which are not strictly dinosaurs, to inhabit the park.) While it would be welcome to see a Triceratops in action, we would still like to see this creature in video with actual gameplay.
"Sonic Colors Ultimate" is admittedly a "highly anticipated" title in some ways for longtime fans of the series. They loved "Sonic Colors" when it debuted in 2010 and are eager to replay it now on current consoles with enhanced graphics and performance. Sonic Colors Ultimate was seen in action at the Future Game Show, where the developers showed off the Tropical Resort stage. Sonic rockets through a cheerful maze of platforms and loop-de-loops, surrounded by pine trees and sandstone walkways. It's a carefree mix of side-scrolling and 3D navigation, but Sonic never has to slow down. [If you liked "Her Story" and "Telling Lies," you'll be intrigued by Sam Barlow's next film, "Immortality," the story of Marissa Marcelle, a young actress who, after making three unreleased films, disappeared without a trace. Immortality tells the story of what happened to Marissa and why her three films never saw the light of day. While we didn't get to see any gameplay, it's an interesting concept from a talented team, directed by Barlow (Her Story and Telling Lies) and featuring Alan Scott (The Queen's Gambit), Amelia Gray (Mr. Robot), and Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart) will write the screenplay.
