At Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S showcase at E3 2021, the company revealed the latest information on the highly anticipated "Halo Infinite". Unlike past "Halo" titles, this time the multiplayer will be a standalone free-to-play mode, with the main campaign requiring a separate purchase. Incidentally, Microsoft announced free-to-play multiplayer last year.
"Halo Infinite" will be released in Holiday 2021, although Microsoft did not give an exact date. It will also be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, including PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming platforms.
After Halo Infinite was delayed last year, Microsoft appears to have fixed some of the game's shortcomings, like Master Chief's big adventure-like campaign to find his AI assistant Cortana-as well as a new AI.
The big announcement, however, was multiplayer. Not only will it be free-to-play, but many of the popular maps that defined the series will return. Players will get several new weapons to interrupt the action, such as a speargun that can flip vehicles over. There will also be a snazzy grappling hook that can grab objects and throw them at enemies.
Unfortunately, the price of the full "Halo Infinite" game is unknown. Currently, players can pre-order the game for $60. However, it will be part of a subscription package for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
