Following the success of "Call of Duty: Mobile," Activision is looking to establish its own studio dedicated to mobile games. The company is currently hiring more staff to develop new "Call of Duty" games for mobile.
"Call of Duty: Mobile" will launch in 2019, catapulting developer TiMi into the upper echelon of game studios, which reportedly earned $10 billion in revenue last year alone (via Reuters). Not content to sit idly by while such funds are circulating, Activision has moved development of its next "Call of Duty: Mobile" game in-house and is hiring.
Activision's website has a number of job postings for the new studio, dubbed Activision Mobile. The job postings confirm that the first title will be a Call of Duty Mobile game for iOS and Android. While based in Santa Monica, California, Activision emphasizes that the new role will be remote in the context of the ongoing pandemic.
As with Call of Duty Mobile, Activision is willing to add microtransactions based on the details of the system designer role.
The new title will likely be free-to-play base, and according to the listing, "new mobile features for live operations, social systems, and events" will be included in the new handheld title.
The new studio has not been announced outside of the website listing, but it has set its sights pretty high:
"With a mobile, console, and PC background, you have a passion for what you do and what the AAA experience on mobile can and should be like. We are looking for great people who share our belief in what the AAA experience can and should be on mobile.
Given that Activision is still in the process of hiring, it is unlikely that a new Call of Duty: Mobile will appear for some time. However, Call of Duty: Mobile Season 4 has only been in the works for a few weeks, so they will have to satisfy gamers in the meantime.
