If new leaks are to be believed, it seems unlikely that the battery life of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will be significantly extended.
According to a leak reported by 91mobiles, the battery in the next Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will be the same as last year's model. Unless Samsung and Google make significant software optimizations in the next version of Wear OS, battery life will be similar.
The new information comes from 91mobiles, which found listing information for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 SM-R860 and SM-R865F models.
Webiste 91mobiles first found listing information for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 SM-R860 and SM-R865F models on the website of Finnish inspection agency SGS Fimko.
The certification reveals that the smaller models of the new wearables will have a 247mAh battery and 5W charging. On paper, this is the same capacity as the 41mm Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 battery; it seems unlikely that the battery capacity will change significantly compared to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, for now.
Looking closer at the certification, it appears that the smaller variant of Samsung's latest wearable will again be either 41mm or 42mm, while the larger model boasts a 340mAh battery and will ship in either 45mm or 46mm.
Previous reports had indicated that Samsung would drop the Tizen OS in favor of the Galaxy Watch 4, which runs on Google's WearOS. However, it now appears most likely that Samsung will choose a hybrid OS of Tizen and Wear OS, as well as a new 5nm processor. These two factors will have an unknown impact on battery life.
These new details are from certification, which tends to be fairly accurate, but we also note it by saying that the Galaxy Watch 4 has had its fair share of misinformation leading up to its launch, especially around the OS it will run. Its launch should take place by the end of June, and hopefully by then we will have a more accurate idea of what the battery will be like.
