Update: Memorial Day is over; check out our PS5 Restock Tracker for the latest PS5 news.
Memorial Day is here. While you could spend the day soaking up the sun over a grilled meal, wouldn't it be nice to stay inside all day and play games on your brand new PS5?
Of course, to make that dream a reality, you'll need to find a PS5 console. But since the Memorial Day sale is one of the biggest shopping holidays of the year, the big question is whether retailers will accept new orders for the high-demand machine at some point today.
Unfortunately, this is a difficult question to answer because news of PS5 restocking does not usually come in ahead of time. By the time many eager customers learn of the latest restock, the console is already sold out.
However, we can make some educated guesses to determine if the PS5 will be restocked somewhere today.
Perhaps the biggest advantage Memorial Day has over something like Amazon Prime Day is that it is inclusive and not tied to just a single retailer.
This means that Target, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, or Amazon could all have ample PS5 stock at some point today. The question, of course, is whether any of these companies will want to restock on Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, so these retailers already have plenty of customers looking for the biggest bargains on Memorial Day sales. Mixing these shoppers in with the hordes of gamers who will be re-stocking their PS5s is likely to lead to website crashes, checkout errors, and social media outbursts of frustration.
Retailers may opt to restock the PS5 later in the week to avoid overloading their own servers; BestBuy restocked the PS5 and the Xbox Series X last Monday.
Since Memorial Day is a great time to save on all kinds of products, from Memorial Day laptop sales to Amazon Memorial Day sales, this holiday may be the first chance to purchase the PS5 for less than the normal MSRP of $499 Some speculate that this is the case.
No crystal ball is needed to answer this question, and it can be said with near certainty that the PS5 will not be on sale on Memorial Day. In fact, I have seen duffers trying to sell it for as much as $1,077.
With such a high level of demand and struggling supply to match, neither Sony nor any retailer has any incentive to offer discounts on the PS5 this Memorial Day. In fact, come Memorial Day next year, the PS5 will probably still be available at full price.
If you are waiting for a PS5 discount before purchasing a PS5, you will have to wait a while longer.
