Several new leaks of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 have teased new information about the rumored wireless earbuds.
An FCC certification document discovered by Twitter leaker Tron appears to show the Galaxy Buds 2 in a shape similar to the premium Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. Meanwhile, fellow tipster Ice Universe tweeted that the Galaxy Buds 2 will, perhaps unexpectedly, feature active noise cancellation (ANC).
Ice Universe also claimed that its track record is generally better for Samsung products, though mixed across the board, and that the Galaxy Buds 2 will have "better sound quality." The report also includes what is believed to be an image of the earpieces of the Galaxy Buds 2, although it has been heavily edited.
Tron's photo depicts the earpiece design with Galaxy Buds Pro-style curves, much smoother than the original Samsung Galaxy Buds and their blocky shape, and shows off more of the same. If the final design is representative, the Galaxy Buds 2 will retain the series' removable in-ear tips and will feature an IR sensor.
Tron also suggested that accessory cases that fit the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds Live will also fit the Galaxy Buds 2 case because of shared dimensions. A diagram of the back of this new case is also included as part of the leak, but there are no live pictures.
The biggest news here, however, is that ANC may be included. From its name and product code (SM-R177), we can assume that the Galaxy Buds 2 will be closer to the ANC-less Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds Plus than to the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy Buds Live.
Therefore, the Galaxy Buds 2 could enter Samsung's ANC lineup without requiring much investment. It is also possible that Samsung's Buds could gain a significant advantage over the AirPods 3, which are expected to be released without ANC.
However, this may come at the expense of battery life; as SamMobile pointed out, the FCC document states that the Galaxy Buds 2 has a 60 mAh battery in each bud, whereas the Galaxy Buds Plus has Buds has an 85 mAh battery. Unless there is a tremendous improvement in efficiency, this means that the Galaxy Buds 2 may have a shorter lifespan, even without taking into account the extra drain from ANC.
