The PS5's DualSense controller has been well received for its next-generation features, such as haptic feedback, but it turns out there are more uses for this technology than just making gaming more immersive.
Discovered by The Verge (and originally outlined in a Reddit thread), the technology allows DualSense to vibrate to music in a few simple steps. When enabled, the controller hums along to the song, acting like a mini subwoofer.
The controller simulates the music through a series of vibrations, thanks to its built-in tactile motors. To see this strange hidden feature in action, the controller must be connected to a PC and the Spotify app for Windows must be installed.
Before we get into the setup process, it should be noted that this is not a feature we use on a daily basis. Haptics is not designed for music simulation and the results may be unstable. Furthermore, in order to actually listen to music while vibrating the controller, a headset must be connected to the dual-sense 3.5mm jack.
Nevertheless, this is a very nifty little feature, and you will want to play at least a couple of songs with it. Setup is so easy that there is no reason not to try it at least once.
The process is pretty straightforward, but you will need three things: a DualSense controller (of course!) ), a USB-C cable, and a Windows PC with the Spotify desktop app installed.
That's it. Now you can not only listen to music, you can feel it. You don't need a PS5 console for this trick, only a DualSense controller. But if you're in the market for a complete PS5 console, check out the PS5 Restock Hub for the latest availability of the hard-to-find console.
