Details of Samsung's new Galaxy Watch 4 have leaked.
Leaker Ice Universe posted some interesting information on Twitter about the Galaxy Watch Active 4, a sports-oriented model in the Galaxy Watch 4 series. There appear to be some major design changes, but users will get a new powerful chipset to run the watch and a new operating system to use it.
Topping the list of UIs is "TizenWear OS." In a follow-up tweet, IU explained that this confusing name refers to the first time the two operating systems will be integrated in the Galaxy Watch; Wear OS will be the core of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch Active 4, but with a Samsung-style skin on top of it . Google and Samsung just announced this at Google I/O a few days ago, but we don't yet have specifics on what this will look like or how it will work.
IU claims that the Galaxy Watch Active 4 will feature a new 5nm processor, which could noticeably increase the power of the smartwatch. Samsung's Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and previous Galaxy Watches have all used 10nm chipsets, so the new chip should offer significant improvements in power efficiency as well as performance.
As for the design, IU has also provided some details. They mention a flat 2D glass face instead of the curved 2.5D glass of other Galaxy Watches, and possibly a titanium alloy body and narrow bezel. It looks quite different from the previous rounded Galaxy Watch Active models, but it should remain tough enough for the sports and outdoor activities it was designed to track.
In response to IU's tweet, other leakers added to the Galaxy Watch Active 4: a person named Chun claimed that it will also have a larger battery, and Yogesh explained that the bezels will be narrower due to improved display drivers, but Otherwise, the design is the same as the Galaxy Watch Active 2.
Another major feature mentioned in previous rumors and leaks is blood glucose monitoring, which is rumored to be included in the Apple Watch 7. However, that latest information indicates that blood glucose monitoring will not be included in the Galaxy Watch 4 after all.
We expect the new Galaxy Watch to arrive in July or August (according to one leaked source). Or it could appear this fall along with Samsung's two new foldable phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
