WhatsApp has finally got this handy chat feature

WhatsApp has finally released the ability to transfer chats and messages between iOS and Android devices, benefiting users who are considering switching from Android to iPhone and vice versa.

WABetaInfo broke the news on Twitter, stating that not everyone will be able to try it out since it is not yet available in WhatsApp beta. However, if one wants to migrate chats between the two operating systems, the update will allow for migration, even if the same phone number is carried over.

Currently, there is no way to migrate chat history between Android and iOS devices without violating the app's terms of service. Therefore, while it is possible to use a non-compliant third-party app to perform this task, it is not recommended. A new update would eliminate the need for a workaround, but there is no news yet on when it will be launched.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also working on end-to-end encryption of backups. This feature is currently under development and will provide the additional security of password protection. If you select end-to-end encrypted backup, you will be asked to set a password to be used for future backups. You can change the password or disable the feature in the app settings.

According to WABetaInfo, passwords are private and are not shared with WhatsApp or parent company Facebook, but if you lose or forget your password, "WhatsApp cannot restore encrypted end-to-end backups without a password. It is not possible to restore it," he stresses. While this sounds like a pretty dire situation, there is no need to panic if you find yourself in such a situation, as a recovery key can be created.

It is not yet known when this feature will be released, but as part of WhatsApp's ongoing commitment to multi-device support, iOS and Android integration will be improved. iOS and Android integration will be improved as part of Apple's Test Flight and Google Play's WhatsApp beta program, all you have to do is sign up and wait.

Unfortunately, the iOS beta program is currently full and we will have to keep checking to see if there are any openings. In any case, we will report back as soon as we have more information about the update.
