TCL's biggest TVs are finally here. Unlike many manufacturers, TCL has opted to renew many of its 2020 TV releases as 4K mainstream for 2021, but TCL is expanding these model lines with its XL Collection, a selection of 85-inch TVs. These larger TVs offer the same 4K resolution and QLED color enhancement as TCL's mainstream sets, but in some of the largest sizes available today.

The 85-inch 4K model 4-Series Roku TV and a new 85-inch QLED model that offers similar features to the TCL 5 and 6 Series, but is a new model line.

With millions of people spending significantly more time at home, 2020 was a very big year for TV sales. In addition to industry-wide increases in unit sales, the largest screen sizes saw the most growth, with sales of televisions over 75 inches more than doubling.

TCL is capitalizing on this trend toward larger sizes with the TCL XL Collection, a selection of sets 80" and larger across TCL's various model lines, unveiled at CES in January 2021, with various models offering the same variety of prices and features as TCL's more mainstream TV sizes and It offers the same variety of prices and features as TCL's more mainstream TV sizes.

The 85-inch TCL 4-Series TCL Roku TV may not feature all the bells and whistles, but it will be popular for one notable feature: its extremely affordable price. priced at just $1,599 at Best Buy, the 85-inch TCL 4- Series Roku TV is one of the only models of this size available for under $2,000.

The second model in the TCL XL collection is the new 85R745 Roku TV. The model number suggests that it is part of the as-yet-unnamed 7 Series, but TCL appears to be positioning this new set as an 85-inch companion to both the TCL 5 and 6 Series TVs.

The new models are a step up from the 85-inch 4 series in several ways. Both are HDR-capable 4K Smart TVs, but the 85R745 has improved color and brightness thanks to enhanced QLED. 192 local dimming zones improve backlight and HDR performance, supporting both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos immersive audio; Roku Voice remote control makes it easy to search for content by voice; and TCL's unique THX certified gaming mode allows for a wide range of games to be played on the screen.

Next, TCL's 85-inch model will have a mini-LED backlight similar to that found on the TCL 6 series. However, the unannounced 85-inch model will update the mini-LED technology with TCL's thinner mini-LED, the OD Zero. This third-generation mini-LED technology uses even smaller LEDs, integrates optics, and eliminates the distance between the backlight and LCD display layer, enabling thinner and lighter LCD TV designs.

Pricing and availability of TCL's third XL Collection set has not yet been disclosed, but TCL has confirmed that an 85-inch set featuring the OD Zero-mini-LED will be announced later this year.
