Samsung smartwatch users are eagerly awaiting the release of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4, devouring leaked information in the meantime. The latest information reveals size options for both wearables, and it appears that a model change is in the works.
Technology journalist Nils Ahrensmeier shared the model numbers and sizes of both smartwatches, which will be released by August of this year. Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 model will reportedly be a notch up in terms of size. The Galaxy Watch Active 4, on the other hand, is an unexpected choice, as the two models differ in size by only 4mm to 2mm.
According to Ahrensmeyer, the Galaxy Watch 4 will be available in 42mm and 46mm models. If memory serves, the Galaxy Watch 3 has 41mm and 45mm models. This means we will see a larger watch face, which may upset fans with narrower wrists. However, since the difference is only 1 mm, it may not be too intrusive.
Information on the Galaxy Watch Active 4 is a bit more cryptic: the Galaxy Watch Active 2 was launched in 40mm and 44mm options. The larger size will be 42mm, although another 40mm watch is said to be in the works for this year's iteration. Perhaps Samsung is aiming to make the Active series more compact.
Ahrensmeyer also seemed to confirm the rumored launch date of Q2 2021, continuing, "probably in June or July." He also clarified the confusing naming convention.
Just as Samsung skipped the Galaxy Z Flip 2 name and jumped straight from Galaxy Z Flip to Galaxy Z Flip 3 to match the Galaxy Z Fold 3, apparently they are doing the same with wearables.Active line The last device in the Active line was the Galaxy Watch Active 2, but Samsung skipped the Galaxy Watch Active 3 and went straight to the Galaxy Watch Active 4, bringing the smartwatches in line with each other.
So far there are no other nuggets other than that, but we expect more to come, given the rapid acceleration toward the rumored launch date and the amount of leaks Samsung suffers before a product launch.
