Google's "Works With Chromebook" program has already helped you avoid the pain of buying accessories that don't work with your machine. And now that label is about to be applied to docking stations as well.
Because when you have to use a large workspace, a small laptop screen often won't cut it, the "Works With" program means that the dock has been "validated to work seamlessly with current and future Chrome OS devices
However, the "Works With" program does not require that the dock be "verified to work seamlessly with current and future Chrome OS devices.
However, the Works with Chromebook badge has benefits beyond simply having a working peripheral. The badge obviously means that those products have been extensively tested beforehand.
Google also promises that compatible docks will receive automatic firmware updates, which will be rolled out with Chrome OS' own firmware updates starting with Chrome OS 90. There are also two types of docks to choose from.
The larger dock can connect to up to three external displays via HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C, while the smaller dock is more compact and designed for travel. The smaller dock, on the other hand, is more compact and designed for portability.
Google also ensures that the Works with Chromebook docks are compatible with both MacOS and Windows. The company noted that many businesses use their devices on multiple platforms, and this will allow everyone to use the same device.
Google is working with 27 different partners, including Targus, Hyper, Acer, Belkin, and StarTech, to develop peripherals for Chrome OS. Apparently "hundreds" of compatible products have been created and are expected to go on sale "in the coming months."
