A teaser for the Google Pixel 5a may have arrived from Google's top executive. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned "significant product updates and announcements" for Google I/O in May. The comments were made during an earnings call, which can be viewed on YouTube.

The comment does not specify which product Pichai is talking about, and there are other upcoming products he may be referring to, including the Pixel Watch. However, other rumors about the Pixel 5a suggest that the next phone is likely.

The Pixel 5a is currently rumored to launch on June 11. Google I/O as we know it is being held from May 18-20. Thus, Google's plan could be to announce the phone at I/O and schedule a retail launch for the June date.

Another possibility could be the rumored Pixel Watch. This would be Google's first smartwatch and has already been rumored for several years, but seems to be gaining momentum to appear this year; it could happen at I/O, but we may still have to wait a bit longer as no specific release date has been offered in the current leaks.

Pichai's opening message also assured investors that Google's product launches will return to a more regular pattern after the 2020 lockdown disrupted everything. This means that in addition to the Google Pixel 6, Google Assistant enhancements and new smart home devices could be announced at the Made by Google event in the fall.

The Pixel 5a and Pixel Watch are strong possibilities for Google I/O, but Google will definitely talk about Android 12. We will likely see a final list of features confirmed for the latest version of the operating system. As of now, it includes an improved UI, new usability with one-hand mode, more responsive notifications, a new way to call Google Assistant, and several other enhancements.

The Google Pixel 4a is not only the best budget phone, but one of the best phones overall alongside much more expensive devices. the Pixel 5a has big shoes to fill, and it also seems to be based on the excellent Google Pixel 4a 5G While the rumors so far indicate an alarming lack of new features and upgrades. Unfortunately, the Pixel 5a is not likely to launch in the UK, and the only rumored launches are in the US and Japan.
