LG may be exiting the smartphone business, but that doesn't mean existing handsets will get the cold shoulder. Some of the company's smartphones will still be upgraded to Android 11 and Android 12.
The news was confirmed on LG's Korean website, but the company has not said which handsets will get Android 12. It's not all bad news, however. German company LG has revealed which devices will get Android 11 later this year.
Those using the LG Velvet 5G should get Android 11 by the end of April 2021; the LG G8X, LG Velvet 4G, LG G8S, LG Wing, LG K52, and LG K42 will also be upgraded by the end of this year.
Unfortunately, we do not know exactly when these updates will be ready. At this time, these phones are still in the testing phase; the G8X should be upgraded by the end of Q3 2021, but we have no more concrete information than that.
Presumably, many of the same handsets will also be updated to Android 12. After all, it is pretty silly to jump from Android 10 to 12 when Android 11 is just sitting there waiting to be used.
Unfortunately, some of the older handsets, like the LG G8S. which came out in July 2019 with Android 9, could be missed. However, it makes sense for LG to prioritize newer phones. Furthermore, the G8S is already nearing the end of its official lifespan, as most companies stop offering full Android updates after two years.
The same may be true for the LG G8X, which was released in November of the same year and came with Android 9 right out of the box.
There is no word on when LG will begin rolling out Android 12, but it certainly won't be before LG's smartphone division closes its doors for the last time; LG has announced plans to end smartphones by July 31, and Android 12 is not expected to arrive until some time in the fall It is not expected to arrive until.
LG fans will likely have to wait patiently to see what the company has in store.
